Use persuasive writing to nurture your learners’ interests and listen to what they have to say.
Expressing one’s point of view or taking a standpoint on an issue is an important skill, and students need to acquire the necessary techniques to express their view supported with relevant arguments. From my experience as an ESL teacher, justifying one’s reasoning is not always an easy task for ESL learners. Logical thinking is a skill that students should be able to use across disciplines. That is why persuasive writing is an essential part of the ESL curriculum. It helps learners develop their ability to justify their position on an issue by using solid arguments and to write clear, well-organized, and coherent ideas. In addition, let us not forget that most teenagers always have an opinion about things, so why not nurture their interests and listen to what they have to say? But how can we take our learners' persuasive writing skills to the next level?
I consider that explicit modelling, guided writing practice, and frequent corrective feedback are the strategies that help students become more proficient in writing. That is why I have created a comprehensive tool that significantly improves learners' writing skills.
